CULTURE, FOOD & DAY OF THE DEAD
Day of the Dead tours near Playa del Carmen
A cenote ceremony and taco dinner, a private Xcaret visit, or a guided walk in Cancún: three different ways to plan your celebration.
Choose the experience you want before choosing a ticket. The cenote outing combines a long excursion with a taco dinner; the private Xcaret option focuses on the festival inside the park. A shorter Cancún walk is an additional possibility if you are already staying there.
Below, we compare the published itineraries, food, transport and booking terms. These are third-party tours, presented separately from Artem’s personally visited food stops.

1. A cenote ceremony with a taco dinner
Viator listing: Day of the Dead Tour with Taco buffet · Amigo Tours
This is the most food-focused of these three listings. The route pairs a visit to Valladolid with a guided evening at Chichikan, followed by a taco buffet. It makes sense if you want dinner and a cultural outing arranged together, and are comfortable spending much of the day away from Playa.
The operator describes a stop at the Convent of San Bernardino de Siena, then activities around the cenote introducing Maya traditions, an offering ceremony and a tequila tasting. The listing allocates roughly 45 minutes to the convent and 2.5 hours to Chichikan. The full excursion is advertised as approximately 11 hours, including transport.
Included: bilingual guide, round-trip transport from the selected meeting point, the listed admissions, purification ritual, taco buffet and tequila tasting.
Choose the Playa del Carmen departure when booking; the operator identifies Plaza Las Perlas as its meeting point. Hotel pickup in Cancún is a different option. Drinks are extra, and the itinerary does not list swimming time. Ask the operator about dietary requirements. The listed age category is 12+, with up to 30 travelers. The tour is not wheelchair accessible.
Cancellation: the checked listing allows a full refund when cancelled at least 24 hours before the experience. Follow the deadline shown on your booking.

2. A private visit to Xcaret’s Day of the Dead festival
Operator: Opatrip.com US LLC – Local Tours in Mexico
Choose this for a park-based festival evening with a guide and transport arranged for your party. Although Viator’s current title includes “Walking Tour” and “Carmen Ancient Heritage,” the itinerary puts most of the visit inside Xcaret: approximately five hours there within a six-hour outing.
The appeal is the scale of the festival setting. Xcaret’s 2026 Festival of Life and Death runs from October 30 to November 2, with altars, performances and cultural activities. Your booking’s exact schedule still matters: a festival announcement is not confirmation that every departure or performance is included.
Included in the checked listing: professional local guide, transport, Xcaret Park admission and festival activities. Meals, drinks and gala-concert access are not established as inclusions.
Pickup is offered in Playa del Carmen, with details arranged in advance. The guide accompanies your private party, while Xcaret is open to other visitors. The tour is not wheelchair accessible.
Cancellation: this option is non-refundable and does not permit changes. Review the terms for your selected date before paying.

Additional option in Cancún
3. Already in Cancún? Consider a private cultural walk
Viator listing: Day of the Dead Private Tour in Cancun · Opatrip.com US LLC – Local Tours in Mexico
This additional option stays in Cancún and is advertised as a two-hour private walk. The published route names Parque de las Palapas, a municipal cemetery and Mercado 23. It suits travelers who prefer a city-based introduction with a guide rather than a long excursion.
The ticket lists a private guide. Budget separately for food, drinks and travel from Playa del Carmen.
A specific 2026 departure was not verified. Confirm the meeting point through Viator before arranging travel; the address and meeting description need clarification. The tour ends at Mercado 23 and is not wheelchair accessible.
Cancellation: the published policy allows a full refund at least 24 hours before the experience; confirm the current terms for your selected option.
